About Tamworth

Tamworth is a city in the New England Region of New South Wales. With an estimated population of 42,000 people (as of June 2016), the city of Tamworth is an important regional centre of the area. Tamworth is the home of Tamworth Country Music Festival, the world’s second biggest country music festival. Because of this, the city became known as the “Country Music Capital of Australia”.

Tamworth is also the first city in Australia to use electric street lights, hence earning the title “First City of Lights”. The city’s economy is driven by the retail industry, followed by health, manufacturing, finance, agriculture, and construction. Aviation is also a major industry in the area.
