Terry originally hails from Townsville, North Queensland, where he practised law for over 20 years – initially as a solicitor and later as a barrister.
At the bar in Townsville, Terry was a member of AB Paterson Chambers from 2002 – 2004 and then Sir George Kneipp Chambers from 2004 until December 2015 when he and his family decided to move to Newcastle for a “sea change”.
During his 14 years at the private bar in North Queensland, Terry regularly appeared in both the Family Court and the Federal Circuit Court. He regularly travelled to circuit locations, including Mackay and Cairns.
Terry has run a number of appeals to the Full Court of the Family Court, as well as being led by silk in one landmark High Court case concerning parenting matters – the decision of MRR & GR.
Outside family law, Terry has also conducted domestic violence hearings, care and protection hearings, criminal trials and compensation hearings, District and Supreme Court civil hearings (primarily personal injuries and estate cases).
Though Terry’s main focus is and continues to be family law, Terry is also interested in other areas of practice.
Terry enjoys circuit work and travelling to different parts of the country.
